Microchips
In 1998, Table Mountain Animal Center, along with many other area shelters, began scanning all incoming animals for microchips. A microchip is a form of permanent identification (as big as a grain of rice) that is inserted into the scruff of the neck. The procedure is as simple as a routine vaccination. When a lost or stray animal comes into the Center, a digital scanner searches for a chip on each incmoing animal. If detected, the microchip will lead us to the owner’s information.
A microchip is the perfect identification device because it can not be lost or easily removed. We’ve been placing microchips in all of our adopted dogs and cats since 1998.
Along with a collar bearing current rabies and owner information, a microchip is a fantastic tool to ensure your animal will be returned to you! Table Mountain Animal Center offers low-cost microchipping to the public for cats and dogs. At this time, we are offering FREE microchips for cats! Every Wednesday and Friday between 3-4 pm you may bring in your cat (without an appointment) for a FREE microchip and FREE registration. Hurry for this limited offer!
